Rusape Women’s Prison Visit

On 18 March 2023 we visited Rusape women’s prison. Our goal was to celebrate women’s month with the women. We spend the day cooking and speaking to them. After cooking we enjoyed lunch with them. It was a  great day for all of us.

We brought with us some hampers. In the hampers we had basic necessities that included washing soap, bathing soap, toothbrushes, towels, socks, petroleum jelly, drinks and food that we then cooked together for lunch. While at the prison we had an opportunity to introduce period cups. Period cups are reusable and can be cleaned easily, we believe that they are a panacea to ending period poverty in prisons and under privileged communities. We are hoping that by the end the year we would have introduced the cups to at least 1,000 women who will be be moved from period poverty.

Thank you for your love and support for the women in prison. They were happy to see us and we did manage to bring them hope. Our African society is still learning how to accept people from prison. We have three young girls that will be coming out in the next 2-5 months. My hope is to give them a starting point so that they don’t go back to stealing and selling drugs.
